Vernon- Mary Catherine Maxfield, 87, a former resident of Hinsdale, died peacefully Friday morning, May 31, 2019 surrounded by her family at Vernon Green Nursing Home where she had been a resident for the past six years.

Mary was born in West Swanzey on May 12, 1932, the daughter of Martin Joseph and Mary Hazel (Cameron) Sarsfield. She was raised and educated in West Swanzey and was a graduate of Keene High School, Class of 1950.

She had been employed as a sales associate/store clerk for the former Baker’s Hallmark on Putney Road. A devoted homemaker, her life centered around her family and she especially enjoyed time shared with her grandchildren.

A devout Catholic, she was a longtime communicant of Saint Joseph’s Church in Hinsdale and more recently was a parishioner at Saint Michael Roman Catholic Church in Brattleboro.

On July 20, 1963, at Saint Anthony Parish in West Swanzey, she was married to Kenneth Maxfield who predeceased her on August 3, 2003.

Survivors include one son, Patrick Maxfield of Springfield, Mass, three daughters, Peggy Maxfield of Keene, Ann Rink and her husband Scott of Brattleboro and Pamela Reynolds and her husband Jason of Turners Falls, Mass.

Additionally, she leaves four grandchildren, Amanda Rink, Steven Rink, Catie Reynolds and Jillian Reynolds and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by two brothers, Garrett and Francis Sarsfield and two sisters, Theresa Lynde and Patricia O’Connell.

The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 11:00 A.M. at Saint Michael’s Catholic Church with Fr. Justin Baker, pastor, celebrant. Committal Rites and burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery in Hinsdale.

Friends are invited to call at the Atamaniuk Funeral Home on Tuesday from 5 to 7 P.M.

Memorial contributions in her name may be made to the Whitcomb Hall Renovation Fund, (West Swanzey Community Center), P.O. Box 10009, Swanzey, N.H. 03446. Donations can be made payable to the Town of Swanzey.
