Vonore, Tennessee - Stanley C. “Stan” Ryan, 54, a native of Brattleboro died unexpectedly Wednesday, March 13, 2019 at his home following a period of declining health.
Stanley was born in Brattleboro on August 8, 1964 the son of Audrey Craig and Charles “Butch” Ryan. He was raised and educated in Brattleboro attending the former Frances Hick’s School and graduating from Brattleboro Union High School. While at Francis Hicks he enjoyed taking part in the annual Special Olympics Games held in Brattleboro.
With his father he relocated to Tennessee and had been a resident of Maryville/ Vonore area for the past twenty years.
Throughout his life Stanley overcame many challenges always having a positive attitude. He never complained and took the occasional bumps in life with stride, A quiet unassuming young man, Stanley was known for his spirit of friendship always having a smile on his face. He could find the shiny side of a rusty nail.
While in Brattleboro he was active with the local Explorers Post that was sponsored by the local volunteer rescue squad, Rescue Inc. He enjoyed spending time at Rescue’s headquarters as well as at Central Station, Brattleboro Fire Department of which his late father was a member.
Of his hobbies and interests Stanley had a fascination for trains and rail travel and had several model train sets which he enjoyed collecting. He also enjoyed bowling, especially candlepin at the former King’s Bowling Alley in Brattleboro. Additionally, he liked attending NASCAR races, communicating with his friends on Facebook and time spent with his family which meant the world to him.
Survivors include his mother, Audrey Craig of Maryville, a daughter, Delores Greenleaf and three grandchildren of Springfield, Vermont, three sisters, Robin Sullivan and husband Terry and Patricia O’Connor and husband Gary all of Tennessee, Lisa Clayton and husband Terry of Pensacola, Florida, a brother James Ryan of Vermont, several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, a great niece and great nephews.
He was predeceased by his father, maternal grandparents Charles “Chuck” and Doris Ryan.
Graveside committal services will be conducted Saturday, March 23rd at 9:00 A.M. at Clarks Grove Cemetery in Maryville where he will be laid to rest next to his father.
