Vernon- Marion M. Thomas, 88, of Ft. Bridgman Road, a resident of Vernon since 1977 and formally of Brattleboro died December 14, 2016 at her home with her family at her bedside following an extended illness.
Mrs. Thomas was born in Danby, Vermont on August 20, 1928 the daughter of Clifford and Mildred (Winship) Mason. She was raised and educated in Danby and was a graduate of Burr & Burton Academy in Manchester, class of 1946.
She had been employed at the Brattleboro Retreat initially working as a switchboard operator, later working at the Retreat's Linden Lodge Nursing Home. She retired as an administrative assistant in 2002 following 50 years of faithful service with the organization. In addition, Mrs. Thomas assisted with her late husband's business, Dick Thomas Garage off of Putney Road.
In her leisure time, Mrs. Thomas enjoyed shopping and taking day trips with her daughters. She enjoyed traveling and took vacations to Alaska, Hawaii and numerous trips to New Orleans to visit her son and his family. Mrs. Thomas travelled by motor home with her husband, prior to his death, on several cross country trips. Mrs. Thomas was well know by family and friends for her baking. Spending time with family was important to Mrs. Thomas and she always hosted holiday celebrations at the family home.
On September 5, 1953 in Dublin, New Hampshire she was married to Richard M. Thomas. Her faithful and devoted husband of 44 years predeceased her in 1997.
Survivors include two sons, Warner L. Thomas, II of New Orleans, Richard M. Thomas, Jr. of Goffstown, N.H. and, three daughters, Barbara Boyce and Eleanor Thomas both of Vernon and Rita Call of Bellows Falls. Additionally she leaves eight grandchildren, five great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a grandson, Warner L. Thomas III and her brother, Clifford Mason.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Atamaniuk Funeral Home Tuesday at 11 am with pastor Steve McClelland of West Brattleboro Baptist Church officiating. Visiting hours will be Monday from 5 to 7 pm.
Burial in Locust Ridge Cemetery will take place Sunday, May 21, 2017 at 1:30 p.m., where she will be laid to rest next to her husband.

The family would like to thank Bayada Hospice, Dr. Paasche, and personal friend caregivers, Wendy, Lisa and Kerri for their kindness and care during Mrs. Thomas' illness. Special thanks to her daughter, Barbara, for spending every day with her mother during her illness which allowed Mrs. Thomas to remain at home.
