Winchester, NH- Irene T. Edson, 89, a lifelong resident of Hinsdale, formerly of River Street passed away peacefully Saturday morning, April 22, 2017 at Applewood Healthcare in Winchester.
Mrs. Edson was born at home in Hinsdale on July 6, 1927 the daughter of Ernest and Aurore "Ora" (Bergeron) Kilhart. She attended Hinsdale public schools and was a graduate of Hinsdale High School, Class of 1945.
She had been employed as a bookkeeper working for several paper mills in Hinsdale and Ashuelot retiring in 2002 at the age of 75 from McGoldrich Paper Company, Inc.
A devout Catholic, she was a lifelong communicant of Saint Joseph's Church where for many years she served on the welcoming and bereavement committee as well as the parish council. She was very proud of both her church and her community.
Of her leisure time activities, she enjoyed gardening, knitting mittens by the hundreds which she gave to the schools for the needy, making floral arrangements and visits to shut-ins. She spent her life always thinking of others.
On June 17, 1950 at Saint Joseph's Church she was married to Arnold Edson who predeceased her on April 8, 1969.
Survivors include one daughter, Anne Davenport and husband Richard of Hinsdale, two sons, Peter Edson and Matthew Edson both of Hinsdale, one sister, Yvonne Kilhart of Westmoreland, three grandchildren, Amber Castiline and husband John of Hamden, CT, Laurel and Daniel Edson, two great grandsons, John and Nathan Castiline and several nieces and nephews.
The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10:00 A.M. at Mary Queen of Peace Parish in Hinsdale. Committal Rites and burial will follow in Saint Joseph's Parish Cemetery.
Friends are invited to call at the Atamaniuk Funeral Home on Wednesday from 6 to 8 P.M.
