Cocoa, FL – Francis "Bud" C. Rau, 89, of Cocoa, Florida and a former resident of Hinsdale and Brattleboro, died Saturday, December 3, 2016 at Wuesthoff Hospice in Cocoa. He was born June 11, 1927 in Winchester, NH, the only son of Frank and Varja (Tomczyk) Rau.
A veteran of the US Navy, he did duty in the Pacific area from 1944 until 1947. He was a life member of The American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Elks. Francis was employed at the former Book Press in Brattleboro for over 35 years and then owned and operated Rau's Restaurant in Hinsdale, NH before retiring.
Francis was an avid baseball fan and followed The Boston Red Sox and Tampa Bay Rays. He never missed an opportunity to watch his grandsons play baseball through the years.
On August 6, 1949 he was married to Barbara Johnson who survives. He also leaves two children, Karen Martell and husband John of Brattleboro and John Rau and wife Laurie of Port St. John, Fla. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Lindsey Villarroel and husband David, Joseph and wife Clara, Liza, Joel, Jamie Martell and James Rau, as well as three great grandchildren, Logan and Ryan Villorroel and Eloise Martell.
Francis was predeceased by three sisters, Margaret Bolden, Julie Maslowski and Christina Rau.
A committal service will be held Saturday, June 10, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Hinsdale, NH.
