Brattleboro - Clyde Earl Shatney, 80, formerly of Hayes Court and a longtime resident of Brattleboro passed away early Friday morning, July 28, 2017 at the Thompson House.
Mr. Shatney was born in Peacham, Vermont on March 14, 1937, the son of Clarence P. and Bertha (Taylor) Shatney, Sr. He was raised and educated in Brattleboro attending public schools in town.
A veteran of the Korean Conflict, he proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. He worked his entire career as a truck driver for numerous trucking firms in the greater Brattleboro and Manchester, NH area.
Active civically, he was a former member of the Brattleboro Fire Department.
Mr. Shatney held membership in the American Legion, Brattleboro Post #5 and the VFW, Carl M. Dessaint Post #1034. He loved the outdoors, fishing with his son-in-law Armand, and time shared with his family.
On September 16, 1958 in Brattleboro he was married to Gloria Boyd who predeceased him on October 22, 2000.
Survivors include two sons, Clyde Shatney, Jr. and Daniel Shatney both of Manchester, NH, five daughters, Barbara Cliché, Donna Momaney, and Mary Shatney of Brattleboro, Elizabeth Hartlen of Colebrook, NH and Shirley Caron of Candia, NH,, a brother, David Shatney of Goffstown, NH, 15 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, a special daughter-in-law Janet Harrison of Brattleboro and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Gordon “Buster” Shatney, and Clarence Shatney, Jr, and a sister, Shirley Glaude.
Graveside committal services will be conducted on Saturday,( 8/12) at 10 AM in West Brattleboro Cemetery on Mather Road. A memorial gathering in celebration of his life will follow, to be held at the Townshend Dam Recreational area.
