Brattleboro- Marie Louise Mattson, 77, of Williston Street died Thursday morning, August 17, 2017 at the Thompson House following a period of declining health.
Mrs. Mattson was born in Proctor, Vermont on August 25, 1939 the daughter of Roy and Geneva (Welch) Senecal. She moved to Brattleboro at an early age and was raised and educated in town attending Brattleboro public schools.
A devoted homemaker most of her life, she also worked at the former Giant Store in Brattleboro and demonstrated home parties for Artex, Treasure House, Queensway Fashion and Friendly Home Parties.
She was a longtime member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary, Brattleboro Aerie #2445 and was a Past President, Past State President and Past Northern New England Regional President. Having served those terms, she became the Auxiliary secretary for over 20 years and worked with numerous committees.
Of her interests and pastimes, she enjoyed counted cross stitch, cooking, and collecting small bears. She was also an avid Boston Red Sox fan.
On October 29, 1955 in Springfield, Vermont she was married to Arthur A. “Art” Mattson. Her husband of 47 years predeceased her in February of 2003.
Survivors include one son, Dennis Mattson of Brattleboro, three daughters, Diane Zuverino, Dawna Reilly and Dale Alexander all of Brattleboro, nine grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, a sister, Sally Miller of West Chesterfield, and a brother, Elbert R. Senecal also of West Chesterfield.
Additionally, she leaves many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Mattson was predeceased by two brothers, George and Gilbert Senecal.
A memorial service in celebration of her life will be held at the F.O. Eagles on Chickering Drive on Sunday, Sept. 3rd from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. A luncheon will be served at the service.
Burial will be in Meetinghouse Hill Cemetery where she will be laid to rest next to her husband.
