West Dummerston, VT- Ralph G. Melroy, 84, of West Street in West Dummerston died Wednesday morning, November 15, 2017 at his home following a period of declining health.
Ralph was born in Summit, New Jersey on July 3, 1933, the son of Karl and Mary (Beers) Melroy. He was raised and educated in Summit and was a graduate of Summit High School, Class of 1951. He went on to attend Rutgers University.
He proudly served his country in the United States Army enlisting in June of 1953 and was honorably discharged from active service at the rank of Corporal on June 10, 1955.
Ralph had been employed as an accountant for Barrows Coal Company in Brattleboro from 1970 until his retirement in 1998. Previously he worked as a manager for Snelling and Snelling in Brattleboro, a senior accountant for Jersey Central Power & Light Company, and for Humble Oil & Refining Co. in New York as a junior accountant.
Active civically, he was a member of the Brattleboro Rotary Club and the American Legion and with his wife a member of Centre Congregational Church.
Ralph loved nature, feeding birds and puttering around his home. He also enjoyed photography and golf.
On June 14, 1958 in East Orange, New Jersey he was married to Myrna Joan Fletcher. His faithful and devoted wife of 59 years predeceased him on October 3, 2017.
Survivors include his two children: son, Lee C. Melroy of Hinsdale and daughter, Laura M. Nanof and her husband John of Goffstown, New Hampshire; five grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by five brothers, June (Karl, Jr.), William, Frederick, Warren and Robert, and a sister, Jane Ness.
A memorial service in celebration of his life will be conducted Saturday, December 9th at 12:00 Noon at Centre Congregational Church with Pastor Bert Marshall, officiating. A reception will follow the services in the fellowship hall at Centre Church.
