Brattleboro- Warren I. “Pinky” Green, 91, of Brattle Street, a longtime resident of Brattleboro died late Thursday evening, December 14, 2017 at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital following a period of declining health.
Mr. Green was born in Oxford, Massachusetts on June 19, 1926 the son of Cyrus and Katherine (Weidlich) Green. He was raised and educated in Brattleboro and was a graduate of Brattleboro High School.
A proud veteran, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II serving in the 141’St Infantry Regiment stationed in the European Theater of Operation. He was discharged from active service on June 20, 1946.
Mr. Green owned and operated Lawton Flooring from 1950 to 1978 and Best Muffler & Auto Care Center until 1986.
Active fraternally, he was a member of Brattleboro Lodge #102 F&AM, a 32’nd degree Scottish Rite Mason, a member of Cairo Shrine Temple of Rutland and was a life member of the B.P.O. Elks, Brattleboro Lodge #1499. Additionally, he held membership in the American Legion, Brattleboro Post #5.
On July 2, 1949 in West Swanzey, N.H. he was married to Marion Whipple who predeceased him on December 13, 2016.
Survivors include, two sisters, Fannie Speno of Brattleboro and Viola Williams of Centralia, Washington, and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Besides his wife he was predeceased by one brother, George Green and three sisters, Winifred Andrews, Alma VanWorner and Katherine LaPalme.
In keeping with Mr. Green’s final wishes, graveside committal services were conducted Tuesday morning, December 19, 2017 at the Green family lot in Meetinghouse Hill Cemetery where he was laid to rest next to his beloved wife. Prayers were offered at graveside by Mr. Walter Roberts.
