Obituary

Rutland, MA- Gary Wayne Younger, 60, of Maple Brook Drive in Rutland, Massachusetts, formerly of Silver Lane in Vernon, and a native of Brattleboro died peacefully Sunday afternoon, January 28, 2018 in the comfort of his home following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

Gary was born in Brattleboro on June 2, 1957, the son of Lloyd and Marion (Buffum) Younger. He attended Brattleboro Public schools including Brattleboro Union High School and was a graduate of Greenfield, Mass High School, Class of 1975.

Gary served in the U.S. Marine Corp. later receiving a medical honorable discharge from active service.

He had been employed as a paint technician for Perkins Home Center in Chesterfield retiring early due to the progression of his illness. Previously he worked for the former West River Paint in Brattleboro and Creative Walls in Springfield, MA.

He was a member of Brattleboro Lodge No. 102 F&AM, Scottish Rite Bodies, a 32’nd degree Mason and a past master of Brattleboro Lodge, (1997-1998). Gary was also a member of the Brattleboro Shrine Club.

Of his hobbies and interests, he enjoyed woodworking, travel and time shared with his family. He was known for his easy-going personality, good nature and spirit of friendship.

On June 30, 2001 in South Hadley, MA he was married to Christine A. Mendala who survives.

Besides his faithful and loving wife of 16 years he leaves one daughter, Brandi Younger of Dalton, NY; one brother, David Younger of Nashua, NH; two sisters, Christine Roberts of Mansfield, Ohio and Joy Flynn of Northampton, MA; and three grandchildren, Ethan, Rachel and Amy, all of Vernon, Vt.


He was predeceased by his parents and one brother, James Younger who died in 2014.

A Memorial service in celebration of his life will be conducted Saturday, February 10th at 11:00 a.m. at Vernon Advent Christian Church with Pastor Bruce Burks officiating. A reception will follow the services to be held in the church’s fellowship hall.
