Canton, CT - Jeffrey John, “Jeff” Horton, 34, of Robin Drive, a lifelong resident of Canton died unexpectedly from a massive stroke and brain injury early Tuesday morning, April 3, 2018 at Saint Francis Hospital in Hartford.
Jeff was born on August 1, 1983 in Hartford, the son of Gregory and Alice (Atomanuk) Horton. He was raised and educated in Canton and was a graduate of Canton High School, class of 2001.
Jeff went on to attended the University of Connecticut and later Roger Williams University in Bristol, Rhode Island where he majored in marketing.
He worked most of his career in commercial construction for several large general contractors, more recently in the capacity as a project superintendent. Previously he owned and operated his own general contracting business, Horton Builders, based in Canton and Riverton.
Of his leisure time activities, Jeff loved outdoor activities that included skiing, swimming, ice climbing and trekking through some of the major mountain chains in the world. With his father he hiked several peaks abroad in the Alps of Europe, the Andes of Peru and the Rockies Grand Tetons of the Wyoming.
Jeff was known for his easy-going personality, his spirit of friendship and generosity. He was always willing to help anyone in need. He will be remembered for his unique sense of humor and his broad infectious smile. He especially enjoyed family gatherings and time spent with his friends.
Survivors include his parents, Greg and Alice of Canton, one sister, Karen Reynolds Humphries of New Lenox, Illinois, a brother, Jonathan Reynolds of Cape Coral, Florida, maternal grandmother, Dorothy Atomanuk of Brattleboro, Vermont, several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Additionally, he leaves a large host of close friends and his beloved Black Lab “Tucker.”
The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 11:00 A.M. at Saint Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church in Collinsville, CT with Fr. David Dawson, pastor and celebrant. Committal Rites and burial will follow in the Horton family lot in North Canton Cemetery.
