Brattleboro- John W. Clough, 80, of Upper Dummerston Road died early Saturday morning, June 23, 2018 in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his family following an extended illness.

John was born in Keene, NH on October 22, 1937 the son of Jack and Gladys (Robbins) Clough. He was raised in Keene where he attended Keene public schools.

He had been employed as a heating technician working many years for Barrows Coal Co in Brattleboro and later worked as a maintenance supervisor at the former Putney Inn. John was a skilled builder and fulfilled a longtime dream of designing and building his own home including the plumbing, heating and electrical, an accomplishment he was very proud of. Additionally, he was a wealth of knowledge and a go to type of guy who many turned to for advice on any project.

Prior to moving to Brattleboro in 1992, he resided for 30 years in Dummerston with his family.

Of his leisure time activities, he enjoyed fishing, gardening, cooking, square dancing and time shared with his family.

On May 16, 1959 at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Putney he was married to Kay Robinson who survives.

Besides his faithful and devoted wife of 59 years he is survived by one son, John C. Clough of Seneca, SC, three daughters, Heidi Lotz of Memphis, TN, Melissa Scarboro of Atlanta, GA and Jessica Perkins of Hampton Falls, NH, a foster son, Ethan Looman of Auburn, MA, one sister, Elizabeth McPheters of Phoenix, AZ, three grandchildren, a foster granddaughter, and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by one sister, Loretta White and a grandson, Aaron Clough.

A prayer service will be conducted Friday at 11:00 AM at the Atamaniuk Funeral Home with Fr. Justin Baker, pastor of Saint Michael’s Roman Catholic Church officiating. Burial will follow in Dummerston Center Cemetery.
