Hinsdale - Lucienne Bisson Royce, age 91, a long term resident of Hinsdale, N.H. passed away peacefully on November 10, 2017, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. She resided at Forestview Manor in Meredith, N.H. for the past couple of years.
Lucienne was born on August 19, 1926 in Rumford, Maine, the daughter of Aime and Jeanne (Grenier) Bisson. Lucienne graduated from Stephens High School in 1944, received her LPN from St. Charles Hospital, Baltimore MD, in 1945, her RN from Greenfield Community College in 1968 and her BS from St. Joseph’s College in Windham, Maine in 1978. Lucienne married Dexter K. Royce, Sr. on October 27, 1945. Dexter predeceased Lucienne after being married for 42 years. They had two children.
Lucienne worked as a nurse at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital, the Keene Clinic, the Brattleboro Retreat and for many years at Thompson School for Practical Nursing, first as an instructor and later as the Nursing Director. Lucienne retired in 1987.
Survivors include her son, Dexter K. Royce, Jr. and his wife Anita (Miller) of Hinsdale, N.H., her daughter, Michele Slock and her husband, David of Belmont, N.H., her granddaughter, Jessica (Royce) Leclaire and her husband Ron of Swanzey, N.H., and her great granddaughter Addison Grace, also of Swanzey, N.H. Lucienne leaves two sisters, Simonne Rafuse and her husband, Richard of Rumford, ME, and Irene Dorr or North Fort Myers, Florida.
She is predeceased by a sister, Ora Brown, and a brother, Rosaire Bisson.
Lucienne was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Hinsdale, N.H.
Lucienne’s main love was time spent with family and friends, especially with her only granddaughter, Jessica. Lucienne greatly enjoyed baking and cooking for her family and friends and always volunteered to host a meal. In addition to cooking, Lucienne was an avid quilter and for many years enjoyed raising German Shepherds. After retiring she enjoyed winters in Astatula, FL with her long-time companion, Thomas Russell.
The family would like to thank the staff at Forestview Manor for the compassionate care she received from everyone there.
Lucienne will be remembered for her beautiful smile and wonderful heart.
A Liturgy of the Word Service will be held on Thursday, Nov 16th at 12:00 noon at Atamaniuk Funeral Home, 40 Terrace Street, Brattleboro, VT. Friends may call at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
A private burial will be held at a later date.
